CLARION AREA HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT
Using both the written and spoken word, students will demonstrate the ability to research, analyze, synthesize, and apply information relevant to their educational and career goals. They will do this through both curricular and self-directed activities.
CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS -
AT THE HSP PRESENTATIONS, STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WALKING THE AUDIENCE THROUGH THESE THREE DOCUMENTS:
*CAREER RESEARCH PROJECT (10th grade): Based on assessment inventories, journal reflections, and exploration, students will research a career path. They will use a graphic organizer to record and document their findings.
*RESUME (11th grade): Develop a polished resume detailing strengths and experiences. Students are responsible for keeping this resume up to date for the senior year college and scholarship application process.
*RECOMMENDATION LETTER (12th grade): Write a letter recommending YOU either for admission to a particular university or for a job.
*SENIOR CAREER EXPO (12th grade): Create a display table of your career choice for the career fair that the senior class hosts for underclassman.
SELF-DIRECTED ACTIVITIES*Participate in two post secondary planning activities such as meeting with college representatives, military recruiters, business/ trade/tech school representatives, or prospective employers. Students are responsible for obtaining the appropriate affidavit to document attendance.
*Volunteer for twelve hours in an approved organization, activity, or project. Students must receive written permission from administration or guidance for any volunteer work that is not on the approved list. Students are responsible for obtaining the appropriate affidavits to document participation.
*Job-shadow in a field of interest for a minimum of 5 hours. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange this. If the shadowing is done during a school day, an approval form must be submitted to the high school office before the shadowing date. Students are responsible for obtaining the appropriate affidavit to document participation.
*Thank You Letter – Students are responsible for writing a thank you letter to their job shadow host and must have a copy of this in their portfolio. The letter should be well written and include specifics of the experience.
*High School Transcript – Students will be responsible for securing and reviewing a copy of their high school transcripts. The transcript includes final grades for all courses taken since 9th grade as well as attendance information for each year.
