Just a few reminders.
  • Scholarships are sponsored by a range of companies, organizations and individuals that set the eligibility criteria for their scholarships so it can vary greatly.
  • These sponsors also set their own application window.  They decide when to begin advertising their scholarship and when to set the deadline. 
  • So what is posted or available to search can vary from day to day.
  • This means searching for scholarships is an ongoing process that can and should continue into college.
Here are a few Search Engines which include state and national scholarship opportunities. These engines request you to complete information about yourself and then match you up with scholarships of which you meet the criteria.
Students can use Scholar Snapp to share their information (such as name, address, email address, grades in classes and essay answers) to apply for many different scholarships.  The Scholar Snapp solution guides you through the application process and saves a lot of time in researching and applying to scholarships.

Also students can create a profile on to earn microscholarhips for activities or achivements while in high school

The Coolidge Full-Ride Presidential Scholarship
A nationwide scholarship open to HS JUNIORS who plan to enroll in college in the fall of 2019.  The main criterion for the Coolidge scholarship is academic merit.  More information, including the application, is available at  Deadline is January 24, 2018.

SeniorAdvisor.comFuture of Assisted Living Scholarship. Three $2,000 scholarships available to students enrolled in an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate level program at an accredited 2-year college or 4-year university. Each eligible student must submit a 500-750 word essay response to the question: How can your major of study improve the lives of seniors in assisted living facilities in your town? Deadline is December 31, 2017. Scholarship award recipients will be announced January 31, 2018.

The Semper Fidelis All-American Program

The Semper Fidelis All-American Program is a new honorary high school program that recognizes high school juniors from across the country who excel academically, athletically and within their communities. Selected students will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the Battles Won Academy with a mentor of their choice.

The program provides the exclusive opportunity for these like-minded student athletes to win a scholarship, tour the nation’s capital, hear from industry professionals, visit the Marine Corps base in Quantico and network with one another. In addition, being honored as a Semper Fidelis All-American is a great resume builder and will get acknowledged amongst colleges.

Student athletes who fit the description of a Semper Fidelis All-American can complete their application at can nominate themselves or be nominated for this prestigious honor. Please note the application is only a single page and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete, and there is no limit on the number of students that can apply or be nominated. 

ACT Award - Available to students that have taken the ACT:
Applications are open for the ACT Student Champion Award! The ACT Student Champion Award recognizes one student in each state who is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge, and is prepared for life after high school with a goal in mind and plan in place. 

ACT Student Champions receive a $500 non-renewable scholarship, certificate, plaque, and state-level recognition. 

Please encourage students in the graduating class of 2018 who have taken the ACT who fit the following criteria to apply: 
  • A student who has overcome challenges and can articulate education and career actions
  • Students must have a composite ACT score of a 22 on a single test date or a 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale
  • Preference will be given to underrepresented and/or first-generation college students.

PSECU (PA State Employees Credit Union) 2018 Scholarship Program

To qualify for one of six scholarships awarded for up to $8,000 the student must be a PSECU members or become a member by December 31, 2016.  Students who qualify may apply at  Paper applications will not be accepted. Applications must be received by noon on February 28, 2018.  

Epilepsy Foundation of Western/Central Pennsylvania
Scholarship program offered to students who have epilepsy/seizure disorder.  This year the foundation will award eleven $1,000 scholarships.  Details and applications are available in the counseling office.  Deadline - March 16, 2018

Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern Ohio
Multiple scholarships available to high school students.  Apply online at

PA Association of Educational Office Professionals (PAEOP) Scholarship

Each year the PA Association of Educational Office Professionals (PAEOP) offers the Hermine Solt Student Scholarship which is a $500 scholarship for a Pennsylvania High School senior who is pursuing higher education in a business-related field (secretarial, office technology, accounting, business education). Lucy A. Valero Memorial Scholarship  PSEA (PA State Education Association)

Great Clips Scholarship Program
Aims to promote careers in cosmetology.  High School seniors and current cosmetology school students are eligible for tuition assistance or cosmetology tools.  Complete details and applications are available at  Deadline - March 31, 2018

Hagan Scholarship Foundation
A nationwide, need based, merit scholarship helping rural students graduate college debt free.  This is a multi-step process with the possibility of receiving up to $40,000.  Information is available in the counseling office.  Visit for eligibility requirements and to apply.

The Pennsylvania Society Scholarship Program (with the Maguire Foundation)
Must demonstrate community and/or extracurricular activities and demonstrate financial need.  Apply online at  Deadline to apply - November 1, 2017

AXA Achievement Scholarship

The AXA Achievement Scholarship provides over $1.4 million in scholarships to young people throughout the nation representing all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship. In addition, for every student who wins a scholarship, a grant in the amount of $1,000 will be made to the winner’s school.  Applicants to the AXA Achievementsm Scholarship must: 1.  Be United States citizens or legal residents living or claiming residency in one of the 50 united states, Washington, D.C. or Puerto Rico  2.  Be current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2018-2019 academic year.  3.  Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. Pennsylvania Society Scholarship (In Partnership with the Maguire Foundation)
To apply a student must be a current high school senior in PA, have a minimum 3.0, planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate study at an accredited, nonproprietary, four-year college or university in PA for the entire 2018-19 academic year, demonstrate financial need, have been and continue to be an active participant in community service. Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation Healthcare Scholarships
Students pursuing a career in a healthcare or allied health field:  12 scholarships available totaling $30,000.  Apply online at:  Applications accepted until February 15, 2018

Blackwood Music Scholarship
$20,000 in scholarships available for 2018!  Criteria - Seniors intending to pursue a college degree and a career in music performance, musical talent, instructor recommendation, academic record, motivation, essay and financial need.  Apply online  Deadline - February 1, 2018

Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc.
Since 1984, the Horatio Alger Association has awarded over $10 Million in college scholarships to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation in spring/summer,  commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree, and United States citizenship.  Apply online at from August 1-October 25, 2017.  Please visit the counseling office if you are applying so that Mrs. Pennington can complete an online form.

2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
This program recognizes students who have participated in community service activities over the past year.  Have you made a difference in the lives of other through volunteer service?  If so, apply online at by November 7, 2017, and then submit application to high school counselor or principal.
